Then the design and construction process which could take an even longer time (6- 8 yrs) can begin. Unfortunately, the window of opportunity to connect an Illiana expressway to the south end of I-355 has passed, since the pace of development and the massive cost that it would take to acquire the neccesary land there, now far exceeds the benefit to locate the road there. One line of thought out there is for a west leg of Illiana is to connect it directly to I-80 at the south end of the proposed Prairie Parkway.
