    I’ll go first! Build the Illiana Expressway from I-65 all the way to I-355 in Illinois.

    We need to build the Illiana before all of the land in south Lake County is locked up with new development and before the Borman is so jammed that it will be impossible to move around.

    The realities of how major infrastructure projects are traditionally funded and built in IL dictate a lengthy (3-5 yrs) planning process in advance of determining and dedicating an actual alignment. Then the design and construction process which could take an even longer time (6- 8 yrs) can begin. Unfortunately, the window of opportunity to connect an Illiana expressway to the south end of I-355 has passed, since the pace of development and the massive cost that it would take to acquire the neccesary land there, now far exceeds the benefit to locate the road there. One line of thought out there is for a west leg of Illiana is to connect it directly to I-80 at the south end of the proposed Prairie Parkway.

    Thanks for the comment. I’ll have to take a look at the proposed Prairie Parkway to see how connecting the proposed Illiana Expressway to that proposed highway looks.
