High Speed Rail for a Crown Point to Chicago Line?
Filed Under transportation | Comments Off
The Urbanophile writes that Crown Point would make a logical place for a high speed rail station on an Indy-Chicago line. As an added bonus, the high speed rail line could run along the proposed Illiana Expressway.
We have to connect, and the map looks like the logical way to do it is to turn west just south of Crown Point (hence our station), then connect with the Illinois Central around University Park. Probably there would need to be some near term movement to protect the corridor. Is this something the Illiana Expressway study could look at? If the Illiana included a rail corridor adjacent, that could be a winner. This is a bit of a detour, but at true high speed operation, not much of one.
It’s a glimpse of a possible future — one that is made much more likely as the Urbanophile suggests because of Indianapolis’ spirit of getting behind civic goals when mobilized, Mitch Daniel’s ability to think outside of the box a la Major Moves and his support for the Illiana Expressway, and the federal government’s focus on passing out funds to stimulate the economy.

Flyers complain about TSA pat downs
Filed Under transportation | 2 Comments
Just when it seemed that flying couldn’t get any worse that it already is in these days of delays, bankrupt airlines, sardine seating and the threat of being stuck on a tarmac without food or water for hours and hours — not to mention lost luggage — comes news that the TSA has been “feeling up” passengers, including old men and young women.
This latest news makes me even less inclined to want to fly on commercial airlines.
Video: Have TSA screenings crossed the line?
I’m all for security checkpoints — I go through metal detectors all the time — but security efforts need to be reasonable and logical. It would seem that a metal detector wand could determine if someone has a metal body part, rather than “feeling” a person all over their body in public.
