Are Indy Police Brass After Blogger?
Filed Under Indiana, Indianapolis, political machines | Comments Off
An Indianapolis blogger and radio talk show host alleges that Indianapolis police officials planned to execute a search warrant to find out if he was connected to the capital city’s unofficial police blog that has been critical of police brass and Indianapolis’ politicians — Indy Undercover.
The story sounds like the kind of intimidation tactics that happen when people speak out against their leaders in urban areas with strong political machines.
Indy Undercover has been critical of police brass and Indianapolis official since the merger of city and county police forces into one unit.
Writes Indiana Barrister’s Abdul Hakim-Shabazz:
Have you ever had a moment in your life that was so surreal that you couldn’t believe it was happening? I did today. I learned the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was going to come to my downtown Indianapolis apartment with a search warrant and try to confiscate my computer.
I was surprised too. They reportedly wanted to know what my “connection” is with Indy Undercover. I think it’s something else which I’ll get to in a moment. Luckily, common sense has prevailed for now and someone decided catching real criminals would be a more important use of the taxpayers’ money.
Writes Indy Undercover’s “Indyu”:
This is America, not Pakistan! When the leadership of the police department thinks it can go after citizens because they don’t like honest criticism, then something is really wrong! This isn’t just about Bling Bling, but any administration. Indyu is going to be here to keep them honest.
Advance Indiana’s Gary Welsh claims someone sent him emails showing a connection between Abdul Hakim-Shabazz and the Indy Undercover blog:
As I earlier reported, someone anonymously sent me e-mails last year, which were allegedly exchanged between Shabazz and Ike Randolph discussing their work on the blog. I couldn’t determine whether the e-mails were spoofed or real. I showed them to both men, who denied they were behind the blog, although both knew law enforcement officials were behind the blog.
