I Went To See Bill Clinton Today
Filed Under Bill Clinton, Indiana primary | 9 Comments
Bill Clinton came to the Crown Point YMCA this afternoon and put on a good political rally for Hillary supporters and other curious onlookers enjoying the fact that Indiana is finally getting some attention from people who usually flyover the Hoosier state on their way to California or New York.
Video: Bill Clinton in Crown Point
Bill said that Hillary Clinton had put in some good words for Crown Point, so that was nice to hear.
I have to admit it was fun to hear and see Bill Clinton do his magic for the crowd. It brought back the good memories of when I was still an undergrad and was living a relatively carefree life.
When I was younger, I voted for Clinton when he first ran. I also helped make phone calls for the Monroe County Democratic Party back in the days before “bring your own phone” phone banks. I also wore an American Federation of Teachers for Bill Clinton pin along side of my UFCW Local 700 pin when I was working at the grocery store making $75 per week.
That was before I had kids, bought a house, and started paying serious taxes. Now my wife and I pay out way more in taxes than I ever grossed back when I was making union wages of $3.75/hour at the grocery store.
There’s the old saying about when you’re young, you have no heart if you aren’t a Democrat …
Those were some good times down in Bloomington. Do they still have dime beer night in B-town?
Seeing Clinton up close and personally brought back some of the good memories of the 1990s back when I was in carefree 20s. Of course, I’m doing better now than I did back then, so I can’t complain.
I have some video of Bill Clinton’s visit that I’ll get uploaded sometime tomorrow. I hope I didn’t forget to turn on the sound on the camera I was using.

John McCain’s Background Revealed
Filed Under Election 2008, Indiana primary, John McCain | 8 Comments
With the horse race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama continuing full steam as we head into the Indiana primary on May 6, it’s important to remember that John McCain is also still in the race for the United States presidency.
A recent opinion piece gives us a glimpse into John McCain’s background — a look that gives a better understanding about the GOP candidate for president. H/T to Steve over at Hoosiers For McCain.
Mr. Day relayed to me one of the stories Americans should hear. It involves what happened to him after escaping from a North Vietnamese prison during the war. When he was recaptured, a Vietnamese captor broke his arm and said, “I told you I would make you a cripple.”
The break was designed to shatter Mr. Day’s will. He had survived in prison on the hope that one day he would return to the United States and be able to fly again. To kill that hope, the Vietnamese left part of a bone sticking out of his arm, and put him in a misshapen cast. This was done so that the arm would heal at “a goofy angle,” as Mr. Day explained. Had it done so, he never would have flown again.
But it didn’t heal that way because of John McCain. Risking severe punishment, Messrs. McCain and Day collected pieces of bamboo in the prison courtyard to use as a splint. Mr. McCain put Mr. Day on the floor of their cell and, using his foot, jerked the broken bone into place. Then, using strips from the bandage on his own wounded leg and the bamboo, he put Mr. Day’s splint in place.
Years later, Air Force surgeons examined Mr. Day and complimented the treatment he’d gotten from his captors. Mr. Day corrected them. It was Dr. McCain who deserved the credit. Mr. Day went on to fly again
