Is Google Adsense dead or is it just a sign of the economic times that advertisers aren’t spending the same money they were on ad budgets? Times are tough and businesses are cutting back — just as everyone else is because of these days of tight budgets.

However, don’t assume just because business is slow today, it won’t be booming in the near future — especially once the uncertainty surrounding the election is over. Remember back to 1980, 1992 and 2000 — the same stories about boom and bust and financial hard times, then fairly quick recovery thereafter. Any time there seems to be the chance of a huge change in the American political system, there is always financial unrest.

Here’s an interesting video with some thoughts about the subject from Lisa:

Video: Is Adsense Dead?

The key thought: Continue to create quality content that is attractive to an audience so that you can build traffic during these tight times.

I haven’t been able to bring up Google for a couple of hours using Google Chrome and Firefox.

Has anyone else experienced any problems?  I haven’t seen any recent posts about anyone else experiencing any difficulties and I can get out to other sites.  Maybe there’s something wrong on my end?

Update: I figured out the solution to the problem.

I could get into Google using a proxy server, so I figured out that it wasn’t a problem with Google Chrome or Firefox or even IE.  I did some searching online and found that people using Comcast have had the same problem at times, so it probably had to do with the IP address Comcast had assigned.

If the particular IP address isn’t working right, here’s the solution to not being able to access Google.

1) Search for CMD using Windows Vista’s search function.

2) Right click on the CMD icon and select “Run as Administrator.”

3) Run the CMD prompt by clicking on the CMD icon.

4) Type the command ipconfig/release.

5) You should get a confirmation that your IP address has been dumped.

6) Turn off your network adaptor, then turn it back on to get a new IP address from Comcast.

7) See if you can get back into Google.

Some interesting things observed.  I could always see Google Ads, even though I couldn’t get into Google.  I could also see my Google Apps items as well.  The block was just as to Google.com itself.

The other site that I noticed was blocked was OpenDNS.com as well.  I noticed OpenDNS would time out just as Google had when I was trying to log in to make sure that I hadn’t accidently blocked Google by accident. I switched back to the automatic configuration for my computer’s DNS server just in case the problem was on their end.  I’ll switch my DNS configuration back to OpenDNS since I don’t think they were the cause of my inability to access Google’s website.
