‘More Serious Crimes To Worry About’
Filed Under cell phone bans, crime, Gary Indiana, Gary Police | Comments Off
Gary Police aren’t busting citizens rolling around town talking on their cell phones, despite a newly enacted ordinance banning cell phone usage while driving for a variety of reasons, but mostly because drug dealers and murderers are keeping them busy.
Reports the Post-Tribune’s Jerry Davich:
“There are far more serious crimes to worry about,” one Gary cop told me.
I’m glad to see the Gary Police are focusing on the priority cases, rather than chasing down people talking on cell phones while driving.

ID Theft Key To Motive In Baby Josiah Shaw Shooting?
Filed Under crime, Gary, Gary Indiana, Gary Police, Josiah Shaw, Kwana Shaw, Terry Bethel, Terry Noel, urban peril | 2 Comments
An identity theft case allegedly designed to avoid a DNA paternity test may be a motive in the Baby Josiah Shaw shooting in Gary during a carjacking earlier this week.
The Post-Tribune’s Lori Caldwell reports:
A complicated identity theft scheme involving the “person of interest” held in Monday’s shooting death of 13-month-old Josiah Shaw may provide detectives with a motive.
Indiana State Police began an investigation in early 2007 after a Gary man attempted to obtain a driver’s license using Terry Noel’s identification, including a birth certificate and bank card.
The man told State Police detectives Noel, also known as Terry Bethel, wanted to avoid a DNA test that would link him to a child born out of wedlock, sources said.
