Some worry stimulus package is loaded with pork.

The Democrats are pushing for passage of the economic stimulus package.

Despite GOP opposition, the Democrats are predicting the bill will pass and that they have 60 votes to defeat any filibuster, reports Reuters.

Some are calling the stimulus package pork-filled.

Writes Yael T. Abouhalkah in the Kansas City Star of the opposition to wasteful spending contained in the stimulus package:

Americans aren’t stupid, and that’s why a large majority oppose billions of dollars in wasteful spending larded into the current stimulus bills in Washington.

Chinese hack into Congress’ computers

Chinese hackers are rooting through Congress’ computers looking for information about Chinese dissidents and probably anything else that might be of interest, reports the AP.

Multiple congressional computers have been hacked by people working from inside China, lawmakers said Wednesday, suggesting the Chinese were seeking lists of dissidents.

Let’s hope not too many government secrets were compromised.

Cap All Gov’t Spending Now!

Bloomberg columnist Kevin Hassett says now is the time to tame the beast and cap all government spending before our government porks out so much it ends up crushing us with its uncontrolled budget obesity.

This is important to bear in mind as we move forward to the general election. We don’t have a deficit because of Iraq, or the tax cuts, or the drug benefit. We have a deficit because the government grew fat. We can’t fix that with tax increases. Uncle Sam must go on a diet.

A simple way to start would be this: Whoever is elected president this November should pledge that he or she won’t spend $1 more than we currently plan to. If Bush had done that seven years ago, we would be in a different world.

Tony Zirkle: Safe For Democratic Voters

Crown Point attorney Tony Zirkle — who is running for nomination to be the Republican’s candidate in Congressional District 2 which includes some eastern portions of Porter County — is reaching out to Democrats by advising them it is safe for them to vote for him based on his economic issue positions.

If you have voted democratic before and you do not agree with everything it is promoting, you are invited to vote for me in the primary. If you vote democrat based on economics, jobs or health care, you can safely vote for me in the primary.

It’s too bad that the Democrats don’t allow pro-life candidates in their party anymore.
