Donald Trump wants me!

It’s pretty exciting to be in the same company as “The Donald.”

Who would not want to be a millionaire or billionaire or whatever Donald Trump might be these days.

Of course, the love isn’t just limited to me.  I think Donald Trump is giving you the eye also.  And, your friends, family and neighbors.

I signed up out of curiosity to receive emails from the “Trump Network” — some sort of Donald Trump MLM business opportunity. Donald Trump meets Amway — it is worth setting up a filter to capture the messages in my Gmail account.

From a recent “Trump Network” email:

Chris,

“When opportunity knocks – you want to be sure you open the door!!”

The President of the revolutionary Trump Network will be coming to a city near your home over the next few weeks – get registered NOW for this one-time 2010 event in the city nearest to you: …

Who can resist a one-time event in a city nearest to ones residence?

Today an acquaintance at church gave me a DVD from a group called ACN selling telecommunications business opportunities. On the cover of the DVD holder is a picture of Donald Trump with a video phone.

Some people are skeptical — such as my wife and Fox LA which ran this report about ACN titled “ACN: Good Opportunity or Pyramid Scheme?

I’m going to withhold judgment at this point, but I’m also not going to invest any money in either ACN or the Trump Network.

I’ve known a lot of people who have been involved in MLM businesses over the years and none of the programs have seemed to make any difference in the individuals’ lives.

I could be missing something, so if you know of success stories or tales of horror, let me know by leaving a comment sharing your experience.

I’ve been with Trump Network since Feb 2008 (it was Ideal Health when I started…the officail Trump launch was in Nov 2009). Not my first MLM company, but definintely the one that has gotten me fired up. It honestly takes alot of hard work and determination to be successful in this business…just as in any business. That is the mistake most people make, thinking that the cash will come quickly. They realize its not as easy as it sounds, and they quit. Hence, the bad reputation that MLM has in general. Success in Network Marketing takes a special someone. A large social network helps, and so does influence. The average joe has to work extra hard to make things happen. Its just the way it is. There is an invite-only fly-in to meet Mr. Trump at the Trump towers on Feb 16…I have at least one person going for sure. This is for prospects (leads) that has passed muster after review of a questionairre they have filled out.

Chris I think the issue with MLM’s in general is the all too often delivered sales pitch that one can make lots of money without working very hard. It is very hard to sell all your friends and family on buying start-up kits … it is very hard to help a few hard working people under you work even harder to sell products or business plans. The lie in MLM is the get rich quick, not delivered by the organization but by the sales person who’s trying to cut corners.

Trump Network has received a lot of publicity because of Donald Trump. The company was probably in trouble before Trump stepped in.

      Hi Steven,

You’re right that owning and running a business is a lot harder than it seems looking in from the outside. You’re also right that a lot of people have had experiences with other MLM programs that haven’t worked out as expected.

The thing that always concerns me about MLM programs is that they rely so much on recruiting other people into the network, rather than focusing on selling quality goods or services. If someone has a gift for selling and they have something to sell that people want, I wonder if it is better for that person to have an exclusive territory they can dominate, rather than armies of people wandering around trying to sell/recruit other people.

      Hi Steve D.,

That’s probably the number one obstacle to success is the stigma that is attached with MLM selling. I remember relatives trying to sign up other relatives for various MLM programs. When I was in college, other students would invite people to “business opportunity meetings” that ended up being for a big MLM program. A lot of people bought the start up kits, but got rejected by their friends/family/neighbors and gave up.

I took the DVD from the acquaintance because I was curious to see what it was about, but I know other people were trying to get away without being seen because they knew they might receive a MLM sales pitch.

      Hi Keith,

Having Donald Trump on the DVD cover is a nice selling point and makes it easier to get DVDs into people’s hands to watch at a later point. I bet things pick up for the MLM folks when the “Apprentice” comes on later this year.
