NW Indiana Tweetup Makes The News

Social media and the traditional news meet up at the #nwitweetup as the Northwest Indiana Times covers a group of Twitter users who met to forge real-life connections in Valparaiso recently.  Both local newspapers have Twitter streams — @NWI and @PostTrib.

From the Northwest Indiana Times report:

Kathy Sipple, a social media consultant in Valparaiso, organized the event and also teaches a “Twitter 101″ class to help people get started using the free service.

    Sounds like fun! I’m working on figureing out how to start a CENTRAL Indiana Bloggers group! I’m so jealous of all the NWIndiana events! ;)

    One beef, the Times guy talked to all the coffee shop people, the ones involved in Kathie’s class … but didn’t talk to the earlier adopters like Woodson and Scott Swinford. Now those guys are wild!

    Hi Traci,

    You should reach out to the the Central Indiana bloggers who share your goals and interests. The easiest way to do that is to post useful comments on their blogs so that they get to know you, then you can start networking with them for other blogging projects.

    Indianapolis seems to have a pretty vibrant blogging community — I always see the political folks. But, it would be good to have non-political blogs getting some attention also.

    Hi Steve,

    I’ve been thinking that it would be good to do a Twitter piece for Vocalo one of these days. It might be worthwhile to reach out to the early adopters to give some insights into how using Twitter has made an impact in their lives — whether personally or professionally.

    Hi Steve,

    I’m going to have to interview some people about how they use Twitter and other social media and make a series of audio posts about it. That’s the kind of stuff that that people love to listen to on Vocalo.

    Since the pieces have to be short to fit into the station’s format, I can focus on one person for each segment and you can be the first, if you want.
