The Northwest Indiana Times reports foreclosures in Lake County have “surged” by 40% during 2008 — the highest number of foreclosures, according to Lake County Sheriff Roy Dominguez.
Lake County Sheriff Rogelio “Roy” Dominguez said his department’s civil division held public auctions to sell 3,960 foreclosed homes last year — the largest number of foreclosures recorded in 13 years.

Porter & LaPorte Counties should be looked at each quarter to see how their numbers look during this year. I’m willing to bet that they will climb as we’ve seen a great number of sherif sales the last 6 months.

Hi Chris,
I’ve noticed that the sheriff’s civil division in Crown Point changed the way it posted the foreclosures on its bulletin board in the court house a year or two ago to accommodate the increasing numbers. Instead of placing notices side-by-side, they’ve grouped them into stacks according to which law office is handling the foreclosure. It allows more foreclosures to be posted in the same amount of space.
It would be relatively simple to track the numbers of foreclosures based on the cause number designator “MF.” The Indiana Supreme Court keeps track of court activity, so they probably have reports available going back through the years for comparison.
