Joy of Mobile Blogging
It’s a joy to mobile blog.
I didn’t write this post while connected to the net — although that’s always a possibility in these days of data plans — it’s nice to be free from the constraints of the laptop or desktop computer when the inspiration to write happens.
If I feel the need for immediacy, I can always SMS to Twitter or fire up Postie so I can post-by-email. (Or, I could also subscribe to a data plan, if I wanted to spend the money).
Most of the time, it is better to write, then go back later to edit. Speed often means errors. Like a good soup, a little time makes the creation even better than it was when it was first made.
If I feel the need to write, I can whip out my smart phone, fire up my MS Word-capable word processor and start typing away on my little (but remarkably accurate) mini Qwerty keyboard.
There’s no need to worry about time and space considerations. I drafted this post while watching TV – I wrote this while watching Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations earlier today. No need to balance a laptopor carry a papernote notebook while jotting down my thoughts.
Paper notebooks are cool — expensive Moleskine models are all the rage and a small notepad fits nicely in a back pocket. My problem is reading what I’ve handwritten. Also, there’s always the need to transcribe from one’s notes. It’s easier to start off in an electronic format that flows quickly from phone to computer for editing and eventual upload to the blog.
It’s empowering to be able to write when the idea strikes from almost anywhere without having to worry that I won’t be able to read my handwriting.
