For all of the bad press some big box stores get, I have to throw in my five cents and give a certain one that is always slashing prices some credit.

My laptop’s power cord failed as all laptop power cords end up doing after awhile.

The quickest way to solve the problem is to run out and buy a replacement cord from a third party vendor since they are readily available. There’s no need to wait for shipping, so running out and picking one up seems to be the best solution.

I ran out to an office supply big box and asked what cords they had.

They pointed me to the replacement cords, but said there might be better deals to be had at another store. I’m going to remember them when I need to stock up on printer toner and paper since they’ve always done a good job of being helpful.

I went to the big box electronics place to see what deals they had. Their price was about the same as the office supply place, so the savings there weren’t going to be that great.

I decided to head over to the big box that isn’t allowed in Chicago or Crown Point — I was curious to see what they might be charging for the replacement power cord.

Their price for a similar item was about $50 less than their nearby competition!

People might complain about the big box having lower prices, but when there’s a choice to save some money, sometimes having the extra money means I’ll be able to put a little back into the pockets of another local business — most likely my local filling station.

Chris I posted an article on ANWR in June, I got picked up nationally and had 22,000 visitors in the last couple days. You may want to leave a link bait comment on the post since it’s getting such high traffic

      Hi Steve,

Thanks for the heads-up and the good work in attracting all of that attention! It’s amazing how things in the archives can gain a lot of attention once the search engines make them available to people everywhere.

Did you notice my plug in that shows commentators’ last posts? It’s a nifty way to keep up with what commentators are writing.

I did notice the new plug-in, that’s pretty cool and really has me wishing I had gone wordpress (paid version) a long time ago so I could do all that cool stuff. Blogger is falling way behind
