Gary Air Show License Plate Spotted
Filed Under Gary Air Show, Gary Indiana

A scene from the Gary – Chicago International Airport during last year’s air show
I spotted a special Indiana BMV Gary Air Show license plate on a car in Merrillville today. It looks pretty good — I wish I had known about it when I was renewing my plates last month.
It turns out that the state BMV issued 100 of the Gary Air Show license plates.
Writes the Post-Tribune about the Gary Air Show and the special recognition license plates:
(T)o help promote the event, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles agreed to produce 100 promotional license plates featuring the show’s mascot, Gary the Fighter Jet.
I wish I had had my camera with me because I haven’t been able to find a picture of the special Gary Air Show license plates online yet.

The Gary Air Show plates were given to members involved in putting on the show including employees of the Lake County Convention Bureau, Board of Directors and Gary city officials. They are only valid until the end of July to promote the event.
Hi Megan,
Thanks for stopping by and giving a little more information about the plates.
The Gary Air Show plates are pretty cool and a great way to advertise the event. They also look nice.
I’m sure a bunch of people would get the plates if they were made available along with all of the other group plates that are available. I’d pay a little extra to the BMV to help support the air show.
ANY Indiana license plate would look better than the
“IN GOD WE TRUST” edition,
Ugliest plate next to OHIO’s
“Bicentennial” edition….
Hi mik,
Both of my cars have the IGWT plates on them. They are better than the plain blue plates (unless you get a personalized plate) that Indiana has as their standard right now.
The best Indiana license plate in my opinion is the State Police memorial plate with the blue cloud background. Next time I renew, I’m probably going to get that plate. (I wish I had gotten that plate when I renewed since they were issuing low number plates because they were so new).
