Gimme Some Money
Local congressman Democrat Pete Visclosky brings home the bacon — $69.9 million worth — in earmarks for Northwest Indiana and other projects supported by his top donors, reports the Post-Tribune.
Visclosky’s extraordinary earmarking abilities have put him within reach of the top three earmarkers in the House of Representatives.
Millions of the earmarks have gone to U.S. Army Corps of Engineer projects in the area. Other earmarks have been allocated to businesses doing research into energy projects, military items, and funding for local government projects.

I’d say it’s good, but I’m biased since a $1 million dollar slice of that pie keeps me employed
So yeah, it’s great!
Hi Dan,
I also have to admit that I’m not always opposed to pork barrel politics since that’s keeping the highways looking nice and bringing a ton of money into the county. I just hope it doesn’t make the wrong people rich, however.
I agree fully. Someone wrote a good article about pork and Visclosky that I read earlier, I think it was Kevin Tracy.
Hi Dan,
I’m going to have to take a look at Kevin Tracy’s site to check out his Visclosky article.
In some ways, I suspect we benefit because I assume the 1st Congressional District receives more money in earmarks than it pays in taxes. It would be interesting to see if there was a breakdown of where the funds came from.
