Nick Wallace at the Sample Gates finds a news video showing Hillary Clinton supporters in Kentucky saying that they can’t vote for Barack Obama.

While I still believe you can’t judge the quality of a candidate by the opinions of her supporters, Senator Clinton’s supporters are certainly a group of Americans we don’t often consider in this age of technology and education.

It’s sometimes easy for me to forget that there are people out there who would not vote for someone based on race — the point comes through even though Hillary’s supporters are smart enough to not say it out loud.

They say they’ll vote for Hillary Clinton, but will never vote for Barack Obama.  It doesn’t make sense to me.

While we have problems in Northwest Indiana, it’s nothing compared to what it is like further south in the poverty stricken areas of eastern Kentucky and other places that time and economic prosperity has left behind.

Many of my relatives live in Kentucky and I lived there for several years when my dad was stationed at Ft. Knox, but life for a kid growing up around the military cannot be compared to people living out in the civilian world far away from the post.  It’s a different world because there are so many people from all over the country and the world stationed on military bases.

It just seems strange to me that there are large groups of voters out there who will write off a member of their own party based on race.  But, it’s happening, according to the news report.  It seems that we would have grown beyond that in the 40+ years since fight for civil rights in the 1960s.

Maybe one of these days, people will vote for candidates based on their political positions, rather than making the selection based on race.  After all, is there that much of a difference between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama when it comes to their political philosophies?
