I’ve noticed that Twitter isn’t loading quickly — it’s probably because the system has been bogged down with too many people trying to up with the A-listers who have thousands of followers and those people who are following hundreds of thousands of fellow twitterers.  I’ve also noticed that items sent via Tweetburner this morning aren’t showing up in my sidebar.

Watch for the service to improve as Twitter’s creators add in more capacity to handle all of the traffic that is slamming the growing service.

However, while Twitter’s leaders are working on technical solutions, keep an eye out for what Twitter might be doing to your blog’s loading time.

After noticing that my pages were hanging while waiting for Twitter to load, I moved my Twitter widget from the first column sidebar to the third column sidebar. I also moved anything that was critical above Twitter so that if it doesn’t load, most content on the page will display.

Take a few minutes to make sure that Twitter isn’t causing your pages to hang while it waits to load. If Twitter is degrading your page’s load time, then move your Twitter widget to another place (or remove it completely from your page) until Twitter service becomes more stable.

    Hi Dan,

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they are able to scale Twitter to keep up with the demand.
