I’ve succumbed to the peer-pressure and have signed up for a Twitter account. (Thanks Steve!)

The one cool thing about the Twitter service is that it is possible to update Twitter via SMS cell phone messaging and have the post appear on my blog via my Twitter widget on my left sidebar.

It’ll be nice to keep the blog somewhat updated via the Twitter widget when I’m on the “dark side of the moon” and away from an internet connection. If I hear something on the radio or think of some great thought, I can distill it down to a short message and get it online right away! It’s a nice and concise way to keep in touch.

How’s that working for you? Your page seemed to load quickly. Having Twitter updates on my site killed my site load time on blogspot. Often Twitter will go down, and it can take a lot of time to load your page when it is trying to find Twitter — maybe not the case with your WordPress module, but definitely so with Blogger.

Dan, I think Twitter was dealing with some issues over the last two weeks. You might try it again since it is nice to post an update from your phone and have it automatically added to your site. Escpecially if you’ve come across a post or site, the tiny url feature on twitter keeps the post quick and easy

    Hi Dan,

I saw a tip that suggested moving the last two lines of code from the Twitter script to a place below the /body tag so that it won’t stop the page from loading if there are problems.

    Hi Steve,

It’s nice to make a quick little post using the phone when I’m inspired or think of something. It doesn’t take a long time and doesn’t require having internet connectivity — it’s nice when one is on the road, but wants to reach out to everyone.

I wonder how to get it on blogger (towards the top) yet still not make it slow down my page load time…

    Hi Dan,

Try to code tip of putting the last two lines of the Twitter code into the area in your template below the /body tag. Then, put your Twitter code someplace where it won’t slow down your posts and other higher priority content. You might not be able to get it all the way to the top of the sidebar until Twitter adds additional capability.

It always seems like these types of services go through growing pains — especially when school gets out and the kids have more time to get online to jam them all up.
