Carly Smithson | Going Home | American Idol

Carly Smithson is going home tonight.
I can’t say that I am surprised to see Carly Smithson go home from American Idol because she never really made a connection with me. Carly made it into the Top 6, so she should be proud of making it so far in American Idol’s 7th season.
I am happy to see Syesha Mercado and Brooke White stay another week.
The top dogs of American Idol going into the Top 5:
1. David Cook
2. David Archuleta
3. Jason Castro
4. Syesha Mercado
5. Brooke White

I happened to watch tonite, for once, and thought they tossed the wrong gal.
I was thrilled and joyful to see Carly get kicked off and Brooke and Jason stay. Carly wasn’t a good performer, in my opinion, because she was far too energized and full of herself. She has a nice voice, but, it takes more than that to become a star. Her appearance was too common, bordering on the slovenly. Her personality got in the way of her nice voice. Brooke and Jason were certainly less vocally gifted performers, but, they have so much more heart and soul. I’m thrilled that they stay and the tattooed lady goes away.
I guess I don’t know enough about music, but it seems something should have been able to be done with that big of a voice. I really thought Brooke was gone after her second restart of a song.
Hi Aaron,
I’m glad that Brooke isn’t gone yet — she’s got a lot of heart and the show isn’t necessarily about finding the most technically talented singer, but someone who captures the imagination of America.
Of course, we know that it will be a battle between the Davids, so the people who stay on a little longer will be the singers with stronger personalities.
P.S. The Carly Smithson comment on my Darfur blog post today wasn’t aimed at you. My frustration is directed towards the media and US Government.
Hi Chris,
I agree Carly wasn’t going to win, but it was kind of like watching somebody miss on talent. I’m not musically inclined so maybe I missed something, but it sure seemed like that big old voice should have produced a better song. Each week I watched figuring she was finally going to just kill some song and blow everyone away.
Hi Aaron,
I just never got into her. I don’t know if it was me, but she didn’t click with me. She was nice enough and seemed like a good singer, but I don’t think I’d buy one of her albums.
She had enough talent to get this far, but I think the American Idol voters made the right choice.
Hi Dan,
I’m going to have to check out your Darfur post now that I seem to be able to get access to blogspot blogs.
