Who’s On John McCain’s VP List?
John McCain could soon announce a vice presidential pick. News reports say that John McCain’s VP list has about 20 names.
McCain, 71, said his search is in the “embryonic stage” but that he has a list of about 20 names and has talked to a couple of people about leading his vice presidential search team.
He would like to have his running mate set before the Republican convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, in early September that will nominate McCain as the party’s choice to face either Democrat or Hillary Clinton in the November election.

Seems like commenting is way down this week eh? I still think we need a little pow wow of those of us blogging here in NW Indiana.
On the issue, who are you thinking he “should” choose?
I’m kinda liking this Sarah Palin from Alaska
Hi Steve,
I need to read up a little about Sarah Palin — I heard some talk about her, but it seems that most of the attention lately has been focused on the intra-party battle on the other side.
I wonder if a lot of people went away for spring break — my son was off from school last week, so I figured that commenting would be a little lower than usual. I’ve also been pretty busy with work, so I never get a chance to log on during the day.
The pow wow idea sounds pretty good — nothing too formal or else it ends up seeming like work.
I’m also thinking of moving nwiblogs.com over here to consolidate it onto to the server I use for this blog, so there might be some changes over there while I figure out how to make the move without messing up the URLs.
Hi guys,
I know this is nuts but just for the pure entertainment value can we pick Alan Keyes?
Hi Aaron,
It would be symmetrical in the sense the he ran against Obama in the race for the Illinois Senate.
Chris, thanks for the update on NWI’
Aaron, you’ve got to give it up on Alan Keyes, he’s the loyal opposition, but not really electable.
Here’s my short list:
Sarah Palin - long shot but wow would it be nice to have her there
JC Watts - he can speak every bit as good as Keyes, but he’s been making millions and may not want the paycut
Kay Baily Hutchinson - says no so far, but who actually says no to running to VP?
I was say Marsha Blackburn
Former Michigan Governor John Engler is an excellent choice for John McCain’s VP. He is a solid conservaative (shores up the base), executive experience (compliments McCain’s legislative experience), elected 3 times in Michigan, put Michigan in play for the GOP, and is relatively young.
Frank, I’m going to shoot ya straight here.
I really hope it’s not another old white guy. Young or female would be great. But John Engler sure seems like Dick Cheney revisited to me.
Hi Steve,
I think it’d be interesting to see Bobby Jindal. Of course, he just said he was interested in continuing to serve the great state of Louisiana.
If I was betting, I’d say the choice will probably end up being Mitt Romney because he has already been vetted during the national campaign and is a known quantity.
I’m with you, Steve, on the thought that it might be better to select someone who isn’t the stereotypical old fashioned white guy as well.
