Controversy Breaks Out Surrounding David Cook’s Version of ‘Billie Jean’
Filed Under American Idol, David Cook
Controversy has broken out regarding David Cook’s version of “Billie Jean.”
Should it be called David Cook’s version or should it be considered Soundgarten’s Chris Cornell’s version?
Writes Brother Breeze:
Puhleeeze! David Cook did a great job, but it is NOT “his version” . This was Chris Cornell’s version. There was nothing risky, brave, or original about it.
Replies Devon Delaney:
David Cook’s verson of Billie Jean is so much better than Chris Cornell’s.

I have to admit that as a casual music fan, I had no idea that this was not an “original” piece until the next day. The same thing was true when Chris Daughtrey did the Johnny Cash song. I noticed in both instances that Idol made an effort in the results show to bring up the fact that another artist had actually performed the “unique” version first, but viewers casting their votes the previous night are left with the impression that these guys are hugely creative and worthy of their votes. AI is well aware of what the contestants are going to perform and probably should mention that the arrangements are not original to that contestant on the Tuesday night show.
Why everyone think that all the judges and audience didn’t knew that David Cook sang the Chris Cornell version of Billie jean. Actually, Ryan Seacrest has mentioned that David Cook will be singing Chris Cornell version of Billie Jean before David Cook start performing. That’s mean that all the judges and audience already knew that it was Chris Cornell version. And if your really compared the the Chris Cornell’s version with David Cook’s version there were differences.
