Jeremiah Wright Hurts Barack Obama’s Poll Numbers
Filed Under Barack Obama, Democratic Party, Election 2008, Hillary Clinton, Jeremiah Wright
Tim Reid reports in the London Times Online that video footage of Chicago Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s fiery sermons has hurt Barack Obama in recent polls. Democratic presidential nomination candidate Hillary Clinton wasted no time using the controversy to try to sway superdelegates into her camp.
New polls released today suggest that Barack Obama has been damaged significantly by the controversy over his pastor’s inflammatory remarks and that the the issue has become a serious threat to his presidential ambitions. …
Republican strategists, many of whom believed Mrs Clinton would be easier to beat in November than Mr Obama, are now reconsidering that.
Mr Wright’s comments are so appalling, they believe, that they are a political gift that will keep on giving if the Illinois senator becomes the nominee — a fact Mrs Clinton’s aides are privately impressing upon superdelegates.
It should be an interesting summer because the Democrats probably won’t have a clear front runner before their Denver nominating convention.
