John Dillinger is coming back to Crown Point this spring as Johnny Depp dramatizes Dillinger’s 1934 jail escape scene from the Lake County Jail to be filmed for the upcoming move “Public Enemies” at the Old Sheriff’s House and Jail on Main Street.

Writes Molly Woulfe in the Northwest Indiana Times:

Dates for the Crown Point shoot are under wraps. But director Michael Mann has targeted the old Lake County Criminal Court, 220 S. Main St., as his headquarters during a three-day stay. Reborn the Hall of Justice Bar and Ballroom in the early 1990s, the jail’s neighbor will host up to 200 actors, crew members and technicians.

I live in crown point and My mother works at the great escape which is in the hall of justice.
Phil Struebig is a friend of mine and I have an inside view of the jail.
I was just in there last week and they’re doing a really good thing for the jail, it really needs it.

    Hi Alexa,

I can’t wait to see what they do when they’re filming — and when the final version comes out in theaters.

My great, great, great grandfather, Ed Singleton played a major role in Dillenger’s Mooresville grocery robbery. My grandmother told me the stories just last summer and now I find out they are making a movie about it.

Hoping for a trip to Crown Pointe to see some filming. After all, I’m a part of the family who made some history w/Dillenger……wow…that’s something!
