Did a Gary School security officer lose his job because he voiced his opinion in a letter to the editor?
Lori Caldwell reports in today’s Post-Tribune:
Roscoe Fleming is firmly convinced his termination as a Gary schools security guard was directly related to his letter to the editor criticizing school officials.
“The letter appeared Feb. 3, I was gone Feb. 4,” the retired Gary police sergeant said Tuesday.
Gary Community School Corp. spokeswoman Sarita Stevens, however, said the two events are not related.
“He was warned in December he had to get his police authority,” Stevens said Monday.
She said a letter dated Feb. 1 warned Fleming he must be able to make arrests as part of his job as a guard at the Martin Luther King Academy in order to work there.
“Really, he’s not terminated, he was ceased from his work assignment,” Stevens said.

I didn’t see the letter to the editor, did you? What was his beef with the schools?
Hey one more programming thing, you can delete this comment if you want, your comments RSS has an error it says feed: before the http so reader won’t use it, I fixed so I could follow your comment stream and jump back in more often, but you may want to fix since it would appear few people take time to fix things, they just move on
Hi Steve,
The security guard wrote a letter critical about the school board member interfering in an investigation of a school shooting. Right after his letter appeared, his employment ceased.
I’ll have to check into the feed issue.
I was away from the internet almost all day, so I didn’t get a chance to get back online.
What I might end up doing is switching it over to feedburner and changing the link at the bottom of the page for the feed if continues to a problem.
Is it happening with Google reader?
Hi Steve,
I fixed the footer for subscriptions to the blog and to comments in general. The sidebar RSS feed for individual post comments seems like it is working fine.
I’m going to root around to make sure I’m not missing anything.
