Hi Steve,

I wouldn’t have a problem with a county income tax — all other counties in Indiana have one — except for the fear that it will keep rising as the government’s “needs” continue to increase.

I don’t trust that a 1% tax won’t become a 4.5% income tax at sometime in the future because of budget shortfalls, etc.

Also, since everyone is talking about the need to stimulate the economy, taking 1% (or 4.5% at sometime in the future) reduces that amount of money available for local businesses and could prolong the effects of the economic downturn in Lake County.

Ok, I’ll take the bait. I for one think that Lake County should move to an income tax, and use the proceeds as a way to cut property taxes.

In addition I think that all Lake County government offices should have to cut 15% from their spending in 2008, so don’t think that I’ve lost my conservative way.

I’ve been arguing with Buzzcut that a consumption or income tax is always fairer than an asset tax anyway.
