I want to get a HD Radio, but don’t know if I should wait or if I should take the leap into the new technology.

There are 36 Chicago radio stations with 55 HD radio channels broadcasting right now, according to HDradio.com.

Is there anything worth listening to on the HD channels at this time?

Is the quality of sound better than that produced by a regular radio receiver?

What HD equipment is the best for home use?

I haven’t heard anyone talk about HD radio, so it is a bit of a mystery at this time, but I know that there has to be someone out there who has experienced Chicago’s HD radio scene who could elucidate.

I bought a HD add on receiver for my car for when I had a 45 minute commute to Homewood, IL. I had constant problems with the digital signal dropping in and out on FM around town and it really didn’t get better until I got past IL 394. I held on to it for a couple of weeks, but sent the thing back for a refund and ended up getting Sirius.

    Hi Mark,

I’ve never listened to HD radio and your report convinces me that it might be good to wait a little while longer while the infrastructure is developing.

I’m sure a factory standard HD radio would perform a lot better than a add on or after market one.

    Hi Mark,

I should check to see if there are any table-top HD radios available. It might be nice to have one for the office and one at home.
