The Majestic Star in Buffington Harbor in Gary, Indiana.
Will one Majestic Star casino license end up in Northeast Indiana?
(Majestic Star owner Don) Barden said he had been in talks with state Sen. Robert Meeks, R-LaGrange, who is filing a bill to allow the move of a license to Steuben County.
“I’ve visited with people in Steuben County. I’m hopeful we’d be successful at relocating there,” said Barden, whose Majestic Star casino company operates two riverboats in Gary.
I’d rather see legislation to allow a land-based casino in Northwest Indiana to compete with the coming Chicago and Illinois gaming facilities, instead of moving a property outside of the area. But, I can understand Don Barden wanting to expand his market into Northeast Indiana where there isn’t competition.

I think the idea of having the Majestic Star Casino in Steuben County,North Eastern Indiana is an incredible way to bring much needed employment and also a great deal of revenue to the area. This is exactly the type of help this area is in need of.The thought of 800 much needed job oppurtunities is overwhelming and would be “the light at the end of the tunnel” for a tremendous amount of families in dire need.
Hi Shawna,
Thanks for stopping by Region Life! If one of the Majestic Star boats end up leaving Lake County, it will be going to a worthy place.
Maybe they’ll allow Don Barden to expand one of the boats at Buffington Harbor — maybe onto the lake front as a land based operation with Las Vegas style spaciousness.
