State Representative Dan Lehe, (R-Brookston), wants to cap any Lake County income tax at 1 percent, reports the Northwest Indiana Times.

“I’m in the process of generating legislation that says theĀ 1-percent local income tax will stay where it’s levied,” State Rep. Don Lehe, R-Brookston said. “One segment of the county should not subsidize the bad spending of another segment of the county.”

Chris, Lehe voted for HB 1010, which “forced” Lake County to adopt this income tax.

He’s responsible for the COIT mess. There is no guarantee that any of the cleanup legislation is going to pass.

I hope that the bastard gets a primary challenge from some tax protester.

      Hi Buzzcut,

I don’t know what the state legislature was thinking when they decided it would be a good idea of force a tax increase on Lake County knowing that it would just be another example of good money that will likely end up being wasted. If there weren’t so many corruption problems, it might have made sense, but giving more money to a government system that wastes money (or worse) just empowers the power elite who have caused many of the problems in the past.

It’s interesting that Lehe voted for the bill and now wants to impose a 1% cap. That means that by the time everything is said and done, Lake County could end up getting a higher than 1% local income tax, should the Lake County Council decide at some point to increase the tax.

I wonder how many Lake County voters are in Lehe’s district since he is from Brookston?
