Can E85 ethanol and other biofuels be the key to independence from oil producing states run by dictators and other unsavory people?
Robert Zubrin writes that our country is at the mercy of totalitarians because we obtain most of our fuel from outside of the United States:
This brings us to today. Unlike the 1940s, when the U.S. produced a majority of the world’s oil, we now produce only 8 percent. The majority of both production and reserves now rest in the hands of totalitarians committed to the destruction of the West. This places us in a very perilous situation.
Even short of war, this imbalance places the fate of our country in danger.

The Orlando Sentinel’s automotive editor Steven Cole Smith investigates if E85 Ethanol saves money.
The loss in fuel economy might be more than the savings because drivers will have to fill up more with E85 Ethanol.
Of course, changing driving habits can made a huge difference. A lot of gasoline and other alternative fuel is wasted trying to rush from stop light to stop light. Pacing ones driving by anticipating traffic conditions and trying to conserve momentum can make up for the loss in fuel efficiency when using E85 Ethanol or any other fuel.
